Running on the treadmill

My lungs screamed out for mercy,

Mouth gasping for air,

It’s never enough.
Not yet.

A bit more.

Just a bit.

I can do this.
I hear ringing in my head,

Sweat running down my face,

Blood running to my cheeks.

Eyes burning with determination.

Can I slow down?

I feel my legs about to give out.

No! I need to beat this.

I refuse to let it catch up to me.

Limits were made to be tested.

Faster, even faster.

Higher, I feel the burn.

My legs, my lungs,

my body-

screaming for me to stop.

I whisper-

“you can do this”

“just a bit more”.
